Introduction to Tambour Embroidery 2-day intensive
This is a 2-day class that takes place on September 8th AND 9th.
Learn how to embroider like the famous French couture houses in this 2-day workshop. This is a special weekday edition for theater folks and other weekend warriors.
Tambour embroidery uses a tambour hook on framed fabric to create an efficient method for embellishing fabric in a variety of ways using a linked chain stitch. In this two-day workshop students will learn a selection of techniques including fabric setup, chain stitch (stop, starts, turns, and variations), and various methods for applying sequins and beads.

Visible Mending Basics with Bliss Joy Bull
Learn the basics of hand sewing with visible mending techniques for repairing your clothes. You’ll learn practical and decorative stitches for repairing common rips and tears in woven garments. You’ll also patch a hole with sashiko-style stitches. Beginner friendly and all materials are provided to create your own mending sampler.

Love sparkle and texture? This class introduces you to the world of beaded embroidery—where every stitch adds dimension and shine. You’ll learn how to secure beads onto fabric using traditional hand-sewing techniques, explore basic patterns, and gain tips for working with different shapes and surfaces. This is a relaxed, creativity-driven class perfect for anyone who wants to elevate their craft or personalize accessories with handmade flair.
If you’re intrigued by tambour but would like to start with a more beginner-friendly technique this is a great way to get started working with beads and sequins. Some experience using a needle and thread is recommended but not required.
Class fee includes printed handouts and all materials, including fabric, needles, thread, an embroidery hoop and an assortment of beads and sequins.

Introduction to Darning
Darning is the act of repairing a torn or worn out piece of cloth by hand, weaving new threads into the old. It is a surprisingly simple mending technique that works great for small holes, like in worn out socks, chunkier knits, jeans, and moth-eaten sweaters, without the need for additional fabric patches.
In this workshop, Lucy will provide a demo, physical examples and diagrams to follow along, and guidance while you repair your own garments.
Experience using a needle and thread is helpful but not required.

LINCOLN ROSCOE BEER STROLL
Taste Chicago's craft beer scene as businesses along Lincoln Avenue and Roscoe Street transform into tasting destinations! This Halloween-themed ticketed event includes beer samples from local breweries at popular shops along Lincoln Ave. and Roscoe St.! This event features three routes, with over 20 local businesses participating and different types of craft beer to try at every stop on each route.

Trick or Treat on Southport
Trick or Treat on Southport is happening on Monday, October 28th from 4-7pm on Southport from Roscoe to Grace. There will be family-friendly activities, craft beer brewed by Corridor Brewery, wines curated by Galleria Liquors, a pumpkin patch, crafts, great photo ops, inflatables from Lakeshore Sport and Fitness, music and trick-or-treating (while supplies last) at local businesses. This event takes place RAIN or SHINE

Introduction to Goldwork Embroidery
In this class, students will learn several basic historical goldwork techniques to create a raised leaf that can be finished as a framed piece or a cutwork brooch.
This class is best for students with some prior experience with embroidery or hand sewing.
Registration fee includes the cost of all needed materials, including real gilt wire threads and spangles, fabric, needles, wool felt, and locally made beeswax.

Raqs Hafla: Bellydance and Beyond
This hour-long show from Bellydance by Phaedra and Friends will include raqs sharqi (bellydance) styles and dance from around the world! FREE for the whole family. Presented with support from Special Service Area 27.
Learn how to 3d print
In this 90-minute FREE session, students will dive into the world of 3D printing by learning the basics of CAD design, the process of 3D printing, and real-world 3D printing applications—bringing their ideas to life. After the workshop, each participant will receive their unique 3D-printed creation through mail, along with fun MakerGirl trinkets! For ages 7-17. Registration Link
About MakerGirl:
MakerGirl is an Illinois-based not-for-profit organization that educates girls 7-22 in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) through hands-on workshops, 3D printing, and other cutting-edge technologies. We empower young girls to improve their digital skills by providing access to online CAD software & 3D printers, where they can be both technical and creative in one space.
